My philosophy in practicing medicine is to care for patients as I would want a physician to care for my own family. Compassion, thoughtfulness and communicating effectively are qualities I strive to provide with each patient encounter.

I completed medical school training at the Medical College of Wisconsin and remained there for the Internal Medicine Residency Program in Milwaukee. After completing residency, I joined the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in 2000 and worked at the West Los Angeles Medical Center as a primary care physician. My experiences in primary care were both rewarding and challenging. In 2003, I moved to Northern California to live near my family. Currently I practice primarily as a hospital physician at the Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center.

I joined the Kaiser Permanente team because of the opportunity to practice medicine in a collegial atmosphere. I can focus all of my attention on patient care issues without having to deal with the business aspects of practicing medicine in a private practice environment. I have an entire system that is designed to help me care for you – computer systems, a variety of health education classes and patient resources, and online tools.

My clinical interests are in the areas of Hospital Medicine, taking care of patients in the medical wards and Intensive Care Unit. I also provide Perioperative Medical Care, working with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure your well-being around the time of surgery.

I am involved in various administrative projects committed to providing excellent service and high quality of care to our patients. Recently I have joined the Hospital Operations Team and spend time as co-Director of the Medical-Surgical wards. In this role, I can work in a collaborative environment with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff to ensure we meet all of your in-patient needs. As a Physician Ambassador, I also spend time out in the community discussing our services with potential members as well as getting feedback from our current members on how we can improve.

My general recommendations for a healthy lifestyle include regular exercise, being up to date on immunizations and preventive screening tests, avoiding smoking and minimizing alcohol intake, and being actively involved with physicians in making decisions about your health.

During my free time, I enjoy the company of family and friends, trying cuisines of different cultures, and home decorating. I also like to explore different parts of the Bay Area and have a great appreciation for this culturally diverse region.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
