How to Use My Home Page...

My Biography

I came to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco because I liked the concept of patients having broad coverage without having to worry about ability to pay, and without my having to deal with the business aspects of medicine. It is easy for me to remain abreast of developments in nephrology in this educational, forward-thinking milieu. I had come to San Francisco for my UCSF residency, and, once at Kaiser, never left. I have spent my full career here.

I enjoy the variety inherent in my practice. I see patients in my office, in the hospital, and off-campus in dialysis centers. For me, each patient is like a mystery awaiting solution. I particularly enjoy figuring out problems and diagnoses in hospitalized patients. My philosophy is that the age-old patient/doctor relationship is a confidential one that occurs behind closed doors. I do contracting and quality administrative work once day per week. No two days in a row are alike. I have been here for over 40 years, and I continue to be stimulated and interested in everything here at Kaiser.

Outside of the office, my hobbies include traveling, watching the Giants and the 49ers, and candid photography. For example, while in the armed forces in Japan, I became fascinated with the people’s elaborate clothing. I like to read fiction and nonfiction, mysteries, and biographies. I enjoy attending medical meetings and take genuine pleasure in my work. I have had a good career here, and I look forward to meeting you!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
