Welcome to my home page!

I'm Ed Bubienko, one of the radiologists at Kaiser Permanenete South Sacramento Medical Center, and proud to be part of your health care team. This site is intended to tell you a little bit about me and to help you get the best possible service from your Kaiser membership.

About me

I was born in a small rural village in Poland in 1956. My family immigrated to the U.S. when I was almost 7 years old and I grew up in Southern California where I attended public schools and graduated from UC Irvine in 1983.

Prior to practicing medicine, I earned multiple degrees including a Ph.D. in Chemistry and worked at General Electric doing final testing of nuclear magnetic resonance instrumentation and eventually managing the Final Test section. My leap into medicine coincided with my then-12-year-old niece's diagnosis of a brain tumor. Her illness was a call to action for me, and an inspiration to help others through the study and practice of medicine.

Today my niece is a happy healthy newlywed and I am here, helping to take care of you and your family.

Keeping your family healthy at Kaiser Permanente is easy because the doctors here have the benefit of working as an integrated team. We know each other well and work together daily. We share a common facility and an information system so all members of the medical team can share real-time information about each patient. We know your medical history and medications, your illnesses and operations so we can provide you with customized care with every visit.

Our radiology department boasts state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed 100 percent with board-certified radiologists, most with advanced fellowship training in a variety of areas -- and that level of service and commitment is available to our patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That makes my job easy. My colleagues and I enjoy working together, and supporting one another personally and professionally.

What do I do when I'm not at work? I read radiology books! It's true. My family and friends tease me about it, but my "pleasure reading" is always radiology. I read journals and textbooks because it's fun to learn about new advances in radiology and to study rare cases. I especially like being the kind of radiologist that other doctors bring their unusual cases to for help with diagnosis. Besides doing general radiology, I also specialize in performing CT and ultrasound guided biopsies.

When I'm not reading radiology books, I like to play basketball and golf, tend my vegetable garden, enjoy good wine and try to keep up with my wife Lisa and our twin toddlers Andrew and Alexander.

Thank you for reading by home page. Please contact me if you have questions or comments about your Kaiser Permanente care.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
