Greetings! Welcome to my web page!

About Me

It is my pleasure to share a little bit of my story with you.

I obtained my medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD in 1986. After medical school, I completed an internship at Louis A Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL and first year residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, my hometown. I followed my wife out West to California and completed my residency in anesthesiology at UC Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1991.

On the personal side, I enjoy watching classic films; Hitchcock's "Rear Window" and "North by Northwest." I try to keep abreast of developments in computer technology, and recently became a Mac-convert. I enjoy doing the Foxtrot to songs by Steve Tyrell, Jane Monheit and Natalie Cole and other Standards vocalists. After completing residency, I rediscovered weight training. I enjoy keeping fit; I believe "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." One of my favorite short books is "Candide" by Voltaire. I try to keep Pangloss's words close at hand: "Cultivate your garden." I like to make the best of the possibilities at hand!

My Philosophy of Care

I have enjoyed delivering excellent care with an excellent team of professionals within Kaiser Permanente since 1993. At Kaiser Permanente we have established a culture reflective of the mantra I remember from the Johns Hopkins Hospital, "Patients First". Indeed, my own philosophy of care is that every encounter with a patient is completely for that patient; nothing else exists except what has to do with the patient currently under my care.

The practice of anesthesiology allows me to focus on one patient at a time and deliver my best. I admire the way my primary care colleagues manage a number of patients at once, but that's not for me.

Our entire Anesthesiology Department and I want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your pre-operative office visit, please don't hesitate to call us.

Thank you again for viewing my web page!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
