Welcome to my Homepage!

My Philosophy

I joined Kaiser Permanente because I believe it is the best place to practice medicine and deliver excellent quality care. My goal is to deliver superior personalized care. I make decisions in partnership and develop long-term relationships with my patients.

My Story

I grew up in Minnesota, and studied chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota. I remained at the University of Minnesota for my medical school, and internal medicine training. I then elected to broaden my education and headed to the east coast to train at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, at the National Institute of Health, taking care of patients enrolled in clinical trials and performing basic science research in the field of cardiology. I once again moved. This time, to the west coast to the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) to finish my cardiology training. I stayed there for about a dozen years. The last 10 years at UCSF I alternated my efforts between investigating the basic science of blot clot formation and taking care of hospitalized patients with cardiovascular disease. In the fall of 2007 I became a member of the Cardiology Department at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael and direct my efforts toward full time clinical care of patients with heart ailments.

My Interests

My current clinic interests are general cardiology and preventive cardiovascular medicine. I have a special interest in clinical thrombosis (clot formation), the genetics of heart disease, and the imaging of the heart.

Outside of work, my interests include family time, cooking and digital photography.

For my patients who may have an interest in obtaining information regarding maintaining a healthy diet and exercising, both Kaiser Permanente (links are available on this homepage), and the American Heart Association maintain excellent websites.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Minneapolis, MN
Residency University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Minneapolis, MN
Fellowship UC San Francisco, San Francisco, CA
Board certification Cardiovascular Disease, American Board of Internal Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
