Hello and welcome to my home page

My name is Drew Baker, MD. I’m the chief of emergency services for the GSAA. I am responsible for the Emergency departments in Hayward and Fremont and the minor injury clinic in Hayward. The entire staff and I in the Emergency Department are dedicated to providing you with the finest in patient care and service. Our doors are open to you and your family 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

About Me

I have been practicing emergency medicine over 25 yrs and joined The Permanente Medical Group at Hayward about 20 yrs ago. I enjoy emergency medicine because of the challenge and reward of helping such a variety of people (and their illnesses and injuries). Every day or night in the emergency dept is exciting. I feel I can always do my best to help or reassure or share a predicament with a patient and their family. I have always found this very rewarding. I particularly enjoy practicing my specialty in our Kaiser Permanente environment because our system allows me to see essentially all of the records (clinic notes, xrays, labs, etc), and have access to all of the most up-to-date tests and treatments. This allows me to practice a much higher level of care since I have so much more information than I had when I practiced in other settings. I also enjoy working w/ the terrific doctors in my dept, my colleagues in other departments as well as our entire hard-working team of nurses and support staff.

In 2007 I received the Sidney N. Garfield Leadership Award.

I am married and have 2 teenagers, so I am busy at work and at home. I enjoy reading, skiing, walking, following politics, and sleeping.

Should you need our help in the Emergency Dept, I hope your experience is a positive one. I also hope you find this website helpful to you.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
