About Me

I was born in Everett, Washington, and raised in western Washington state.

My father was a veterinarian with a practice including both large and small animals. For many years my father's animal hospital was located right next to our house in Monroe, Washington. My oldest brother was born at one of the very first

Kaiser Permanente hospitals at Mason City, Washington, during construction

of the Grand Coulee Dam.

I attended college and medical school in New Orleans, Louisiana receiving my Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the College of Arts and Sciences, Tulane University,. During those years, I also was employed in farming in Washington state and commercial fishing in southeast Alaska. I began work at Kaiser Permanente in July, 1985.

I am a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists.

My Healthcare Practice

I am a Pathologist. Pathology is the medical science that studies the structure and function of cells, tissues, and organs in health and disease. Pathology generally includes both Anatomic Pathology (the study of tissue removed at biopsy

and surgery, and cellular pathology such as Pap smears)and Clinical Pathology (the study of blood cells, blood chemistry, blood banking, microbiology, laboratory management, etc.). I am a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a

Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. I am also a Laboratory Inspector forthe Laboratory Accreditation Program of the College of American Pathlogists

I decided to become a Pathologist because I enjoy laboratory work

and helping my colleagues care for their patients through laboratory medicine.

I am always aware that behind every test we perform in the lab there is a person that could be myself or a member of my family. I value quickly providing accurate patient care information, based on the best available laboratory science, to my colleagues.

Receiving Your Healthcare from Kaiser Permanente

I have happily been with Kaiser Permanente ever since completing my residency. I enjoy working with a superb clinical physician staff, learning from them, and being able to contribute directly to patient care for our large number of Health Plan members in the North Sacramento Valley. We all work together, with few distracting issues, in the patient's best

interest.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
