Welcome to my Home Page!
My name is David Shearn and I am Director of Physician Education and Development. I began my professional association with The Permanente Medical Group as a resident at the San Francisco Medical Center in 1979. I joined the staff of the Santa Clara facility as an internist and cardiologist in 1984. Then in 2001 I moved my practice to the San Francisco Medical Center where I perform Exercise Treadmill Tests and read ECGs.
At Santa Clara, in addition to my clinical work, I held a number of administrative positions including Director of Medical Education, Program Director of the Internal Medicine Program and a term as Elected Representative to the Board of Directors. Then in 1994 I assumed my current role in the Regional Offices. My department supports the physicians in TPMG by providing Leadership Development, Management Training, Clinician-Patient Communication Training, Graduate Medical Education and Clinical Education. For more information on my department visit the Physician Education and Development website.
I live with my wife Andrea in San Francisco along with our dog Dyna and parrot Socrates. Our children, Dan and Rachel, are both grown and are off on their own (though we stay in close contact). I enjoy reading, dining out, skiing, golf and music.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
