About Me

When I entered medical school, I really wanted to become a family practice doctor but found I was most effective in the laboratory. Pathology offered me a way to be helpful to others and apply a discerning and critical eye in evaluating specimens. I never forget that the specimen or slide belongs to a real person surrounded by concerned family and friends.

I did my Pathology residency at Kaiser San Francisco under a very demanding Chief, Dr. Bassis. I am forever grateful to his training and wanted to work for Kaiser after my residency program. I felt Kaiser was a stable working environment that would allow me to concentrate on pathology and not billing. Kaiser's goals in preventative medicine, quality care and service appealed greatly to me.

After residency, my first position was assistant to the Director of Regional Laboratory, and I headed Regional Histology and Cytology for a year before returning primarily to Kaiser San Francisco as a staff pathologist, assistant pathology residency program director, blood bank director, Pathology QA chairperson, and later Chief of Pathology. Working at San Francisco provided me exposure to a variety of surgical pathology, immunohistochemistry, acute leukemia work-ups, multi-disciplinary conferences and administrative duties.

After 20 years, I felt I needed a change and transferred to Kaiser Richmond to help start a Pathology department on site. There are daily challenges, and I hope I can make some positive contribution to the medical center and her patients. As of September 2007, I will be the Director of Cytology at Kaiser Regional Lab.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
