How to Use My Home Page...

My Biography

Thank you for visiting my home page.

Originally from central Indiana, my education through medical school was completed in the Midwest. After medical school, my residency/fellowship training was completed at the University of Wisconsin, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (England), and the University of Utah. Prior to migration to California, I served as Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical College of Ohio.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998, originally as a member of the Cardiovascular Surgery group at the San Francisco Medical Center. From 2000-2010, I served as Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, and later assumed the role of Assistant Physician in Chief with responsibility for the cardiovascular and perioperative services programs in the East Bay. The East Bay cardiovascular surgery program received recognition at both state and national levels for quality outcomes related to coronary bypass surgery and became especially well known for its significant accumulated experience with off pump (beating heart) bypass surgery. In 2010 the East Bay cardiovascular surgery program was re-integrated with the existing program at the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center, so that my clinical practice has returned home to San Francisco.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
