Welcome to My Home Page!

Although I knew I wanted to be a psychiatrist relatively early - in High School - I came to medicine relatively late in life, distracted by an early career in software engineering. I had gotten into software through an interest in the idea of artificial intelligence, and later I thought it was pretty cool to be able to wear jeans to work! I still think the mind is fascinating, and feel privileged that trying to understand some part of what happens in the mind and soul is part of my work.

In addition to the requisite adult psychiatry residency, I chose a child psychiatry fellowship. I found and still find that children are magical. I am now lucky enough to work with both children and adults.

Kaiser Permanente is an exciting place to work because of all the good such a broad, well meaning organization can do. I hope to participate in and/or help develop programs that might help prevent lifelong debilitating diseases such as schizophrenia. Kaiser has the motivation and resources it takes to address the special needs of some of our members - both young and old.

Although my Spanish is in its infancy, (at present I am only able to greet my Spanish-speaking patients, and carry on very simple conversations), still I hope someday in the not-too-distant future to be able to say "Si, hablo Espanol!".

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
