I was born in a small town in Punjab, India and moved to New Delhi for boarding school at a very young age. During my medical school years in Delhi, I met a very pretty and intelligent girl who later agreed to be my life partner and also my classmate in residency which made my journey in medicine more fun and interesting! I moved to the United States immediately after medical school to be close to my immediate family and pursue higher education.

My Background

I did my residency in New York University where the intense training would prepare me to handle the toughest cases (medically and emotionally). Some of the people who trained me have been the most incredible people that I have ever met in my life. Later I moved to Boston where I worked at one the best hospitals in the country. The experience at Massachusetts General Hospital was incredible and added to my experience and education. Three years later, I moved to the Bay Area to be closer to my family and enjoy the outdoor life in California.

My Interest

After finishing my training I put in extra time and effort in developing new techniques in Regional Anesthesia and pain medicine especially the use of ultrasound in peripheral nerve blocks. Also I am intrigued by long term effects of general anesthesia on cognitive function and memory.I love outdoors activities... so Hiking, Biking, Rafting, anything that will make me spend time outdoors and be close to nature. Other interests include playing soccer, working on computers (3D modeling) and artificial intelligence (creating smart computer programs).

My Recommendation

For orthopedic surgery, most of the time a regional anesthetic can be performed as an alternative or adjunct to improve the recovery phase of the patient. I highly recommend patients getting more information about the anesthesia and procedure they are about to have. I not only admire but also appreciate and encourage patients to research their medical conditions and anesthetic options on the internet before they come to meet us.

My Credentials

Medical school Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India
Internship Bronx-lebanon Hospital Center, Bronx, NY
Residency New York University School of Medicine, New York, NY
Board certification Anesthesiology, American Board of Anesthesiology

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
