Beep Beep: You have reached the home page of Debra Liest, Certified Nurse Midwife at Kaiser, South Sacramento.

I received my Nursing degree at San Joaquin Delta College, then later attended the UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital Nurse Midwifery Program.

Before coming to Kaiser Permanente, I've worked as an Emergency nurse, Labor and Delivery nurse, Childbirth Educator, and a midwife in a variety of communities, including Honolulu. I've now been here at South Sacramento for 7+ years and proud to say that I've played a part on establishing the midwifery service as it is today. I'm very happy, and it's a wonderful place to work.

I was raised in a small foothill community in the heart of the Motherlode and still reside there today. I have two children, one grown and the other still at home. So when I'm not here working, I'm going to varsity sports events, helping with schoolwork, and being chauffeured by someone with a learner's permit.

I enjoy gardening of any kind, vegetable and flowers, especially roses; and, of course, I have a real passion for basketball.

My personal philosophy regarding childbirth is simple: Every fetus is entitled to the best prenatal care available, and every woman is entitled to the birth experience of her choice; it's her delivery not mine. I look forward to caring for you and your family in this wonderful blessed event.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
