Adult Psychiatry
My Background
I joined the Department of Psychiatry as a staff psychologist in October 2002, after completing my postdoctoral residency here the prior year. I am delighted to be part of a team of dedicated mental health professionals, who care about their patients, and care about each other. I find the collegial cooperation here, across the disciplines of psychiatry, psychology, and social work, unique in my experience.
Transitioning from a career in the corporate world, I returned to my earlier work in the field of psychology at mid-life, by going back to school to obtain my doctorate at The Wright Institute. Because of this, I have a special appreciation for the demands made by major life transitions.
Clinical Specialties and Interests
During my internship at the The Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital, I worked extensively with the treatment of anxiety disorders, under the auspices of the Institute's research-based anxiety clinic. I maintain a strong interest in this area, and led the development of Kaiser/Santa Rosa's group treatment program for Social Anxiety Disorder.
My Practice Philosophy
There are many systems and approaches to the practice of psychotherapy and the maintenance of good mental health. I believe that most of them have something to offer, and none of them have all the answers. In working with people, I strive to maintain a flexible approach, drawing from what we've learned in the past, while collaboratively discovering together what will be most effective in the individual case. I invite my patients to actively take charge of the process of change.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
