Medical Specialty

My specialty is pulmonary and critical care medicine. This means that I take care of people who have severe lung disease (pulmonary) and people who are very sick in the intensive care unit (critical care).

Why I Became a Physician

My passion for solving problems, a keen interest in science, and a desire to help others all led me to a career in medicine. I chose the specialty of pulmonary and critical care medicine because it allows me to combine two different, but related, fields of medicine. Practicing as a pulmonologist gives me the satisfaction of helping patients with lung disease improve their breathing and gradually regain their lives. Practicing as a critical care specialist gives me the challenge of treating critically ill patients in the intensive care unit.

My Philosophy on Healing

A problem in almost any part of the body can affect one's breathing. This means that I approach every patient as a whole person rather than a pair of lungs. Everyone is unique. I like to tailor treatment plans individually to suit the needs of each of my patients.

Why I Like Kaiser Permanente

One of the greatest benefits of being associated with Kaiser Permanente is that the doctors and staff can focus on the promotion of healthy living. I believe that the prevention of disease is one of the best approaches to the delivery of health care. Kaiser Permanente has numerous programs to help people maintain their health, and for those who are sick, regain their health. Many of my patients enroll in our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program that is designed to help people with lung disease improve their breathing and regain an active lifestyle.

Interests and Hobbies/About Me

Although I am not a native of the Bay Area, I have spent most of my life here because of my medical training. I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and sailing.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
