Welcome to my home page!

About me:

Thank you for taking the time to find out about the Radiology department and me. I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I attended high school, college, graduate school and medical school.

In high school I was very active in athletics, earning seven varsity letters in cross country, swimming and track. In college, at LaSalle University, I majored in Biology and ran the high hurdles on the varsity indoor and outdoor track teams. I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Human Anatomy and authored a thesis on Neuroanatomy at Hahnemann Medical College and then continued on for my medical degree. I did a surgical internship at Boston University and then went on to Bridgeport Hospital and Yale University for my Radiology residency. Following residency I came out to the Bay Area for a fellowship in Neuroradiology at Stanford University.

I, ultimately, went into the field of Radiology due to my fascination with human anatomy, embryology and how disease effects the human body and its normal development. Radiology is considered the high tech medical specialty. The Radiologist evaluates the body for disturbances from normal by a disease process. The Radiologist’s armamentarium includes; MRI, CAT scan, Ultrasound, Mammography, plain x-rays, Fluoroscopy, Angiography and Nuclear Medicine imaging technology. Radiologists also do minimally invasive procedures to provide both diagnosis and therapy. As a Neuroradiologist, my interest and expertise is in diseases of the brain, spine, head and neck.

My specialty credentials include; Board Certification in Radiology, senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, member of the American Society of Spine Radiology.

My family and I enjoyed the Bay Area so much that we decided to stay permanently. In 1994, I was given a great opportunity to join Kaiser Permanente and start the original Permanente Medical Group Radiology department at the San Jose Medical Center.

I am married and a father of two daughters. One of my passions is competitive Olympic style epee fencing for which I train year round, participating in local, regional and national tournaments.

Philosophy of Care:

I see my main role as providing support to primary care and specialist clinicians in diagnosing the problems their patients encounter, as well as providing supportive procedures.

I am also the Chief of the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine department. My goal as head of the department is to do everything possible to enhance the quality and service of the Radiology department to best serve our patients and referring clinicians.

Along with my outstanding colleagues, we look forward to taking care of you and your family members.

Recommendations:

As a Radiologist, I am highly sensitive to the need for diligence in breast care. The current thinking is that early detection of breast cancer is still the best method for improving a woman’s chance for a long and healthy survival. To this end, all women over the age of 40 should have a mammogram once every one to two years along with a breast exam performed by your primary care provider or gynecologist. These appointments can be coordinated along with a pap smear, for your convenience. Women also need to make sure they perform monthly self-breast exams since this is most often how palpable lesions are found.
