My Qualifications
Thanks for visiting my website! I am very pleased to be a part of the best health care team in California, and I am privileged to work with our members as they participate in staying healthy and treating problems.
I am a specialist in infectious diseases, critical care medicine, and internal medicine. My critical care practice takes place in the intensive care units of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in Sacramento and Roseville, where I am also the director. I provide care for patients with infectious diseases both in the hospitals and in my clinic, where I work with Drs. Kenneth Lee and Jason Flamm, plus nurse practitioner Sue Elam. You will find us to be a concerned, effective team that is committed to providing you with top-notch medical care! If you would like more information about what an infectious disease specialist is, just click on the link on the left side of this page.
I am on the clinical faculty of the University of California at Davis Medical Center. I have practiced with The Permanente Medical Group since 1989, and am a former member of the Permanente board of directors. I am an Assistant Physician in Chief for Sacramento and Roseville. Prior to my employment with Permanente, I practiced with The Southern California Permanente Medical Group for 8 years.

My Healthcare Practice
I ask that my patients participate in their care by learning about their health issues and doing their best to practice healthy lifestyles. The decisions that need to be made about care are best made jointly, so I welcome questions and comments. I do reply to email, but be aware that if I am out of the office it can be days or weeks before I can respond, so please use e-mail only for NON-URGENT communications.
My Outside Interests
I am a very involved dad with school-aged children, and also enjoy mountain biking, skiing, skin diving, woodworking, and cooking (and eating, of course!).

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
