About Me

Why I Became a Physician

As a young man I strove for perfection in athletics and at school. A career in medicine seemed a natural choice, given my outgoing personality and empathy for people. I felt medicine would also provide me the constant intellectual challenge I needed.

Why I Chose My Specialty

Emergency medicine fits my natural skill set. I am a high energy individual with a sense of humor to match. My favorite game is baseball, a fairly leisurely sport punctuated by brief bursts of intense action, similar in nature to life in the ER. I love it.

What I Like about Kaiser Permanente

I grew up within the Kaiser Permanente system, as a patient and as a medical resident. It isn't perfect, but I have seen us make such tremendous strides over the last 20 years that I honestly believe no one provides better care for patients than the doctors of Kaiser Permanente. I have the privilege to work every day with the best doctors and nurses in the world. It was just a natural choice for me to work with the best and the brightest.

My Philosophy on Healing

Good food, good friends, exercise, a glass of vino every day, and a good book now and then, go a long way to healing the heart, body, and mind.

At the same time, advocate for your own health, and challenge your physicians to push the envelope on your behalf.

Other Personal Interests

I enjoy sports, movies, the arts, music, and photography.

My Credentials

Medical school Finch University of Health Sciences/the Chicago Medical School, North Chicago, IL
Internship Kaiser Foundation Hospital, San Francisco, CA
Residency Kaiser Foundation Hospital, San Francisco, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
