Welcome to My Home Page

My colleagues and I developed home pages to make it easier for you to take care of your healthcare needs. On this site you will find answers to many of your questions about my clinical practice. I hope you find its content informative and useful.

My Background

As a native to the Sacramento area, I am very happy to be back practicing as a cardiac anesthesiologist at Kaiser Permanente. I attended The University of California at Riverside where I majored in Biology. Upon graduating, I spent 2.5 years at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California studying the structure of cardiac gap junctions and aquaporins. I went to medical school at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed my surgical internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. For my residency and fellowship, I attended the University of California at Irvine and Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a cardiac anesthesiologist, I am primarily involved with patients undergoing open heart procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass. Our current surgical team performs a wide array of procedures including coronary revascularizaiton, robotic and non-robotic valve surgery, aortic surgery, pacemaker insertion, and arrhythmia ablation. I have a wide variety of interests, including both invasive and non-invasive cardiac monitoring and the care of patients with drug eluting coronary stents in the perioperative setting. I look forward to meeting you and providing a pleasant perioperative experience either at Mercy General Hospital or one of our Kaiser facilities. If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding the anesthesia, please write them down and bring them with you the day of surgery. Thank you again and have a great day.

My Colleagues

I am privileged to work with 8 other highly qualified cardiac anesthesiologists in our practice along with very experienced surgeons, cardiologists, perfusionists, and nurses.

Hobbies & Interests

I enjoy both road and mountain biking, alpine skiing, fly fishing, gardening/forestry work, traveling, and photography. My mom has 2 golden retrievers and a rat terrier that I love to take on walks and play with.

Recent Adventures

Fly fishing and mountain biking this past summer outside Bozeman, Montana.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
