About Me

I was raised in the heart of New York City but was drawn to California after attending college on the East Coast. I particularly liked the more tolerant and relaxed atmosphere of the Bay Area, and remember wanting to live in a place where palm trees and snow could coexist. I decided to attend medical school after experiences I had traveling in East Africa with friends in the Peace Corps.

During my medical training, I was drawn to the broad scope of problems and situations encountered in the emergency room, as well as the diverse population served in that setting. When I finished my training, Kaiser Permanente appealed to me because it has a philosophy different from the prevailing health care model. Kaiser Permanente believes in prevention of disease, and pays its doctors to keep people well, rather than providing compensation based on illness as "fee-for-service" medicine does. It just makes more sense to pay people in a way that encourages health, and to choose medications and procedures that are proven and represent wise use of our members' dollars.

My personal interests include skiing, biking, body surfing, music, history, and travel to warm places. My travels have taken me to Africa, Asia, Central and South America many times, sometimes to practice medicine and sometimes for the growth and learning that occur from exposure to foreign cultures.

Practice Philosophy/Approach

I strive to provide professional, timely, and dignified medical care. I especially like the emergency department because we work as a team that wants to provide the same safe and high quality care we would want for ourselves or our families. I don't encourage you to have an emergency medical problem, but if you do, I will be privileged to take care of you.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
