About Me

I was born at the same hospital I now work at, Kaiser Oakland. Apparently, back in the seventies to attract more business, Kaiser offered a lifetime return policy on all of the babies they delivered. Well a few years ago, my parents decided to take them up on their offer and here I am. Before that, they raised me in the great Pacific Northwest, and I spent my post high school years shuttling between there and the Bay for educational purposes.

I am a Pediatric Hospital-Based Physician which means that I work only in the hospital. I find this position extremely rewarding and challenging because it allows me to take care of babies and children with a diverse array of problems in a variety of settings. I divide my time primarily between the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and the Pediatric Ward. I also work as a transport physician, picking up sick children from other hospitals and bringing them to our facility for a higher level of care. However, what I enjoy above all else about my job is the opportunity to interact with children. I know it sounds like a cliché coming from a pediatrician, but they are truly an endless source of wonder and inspiration to me.

Outside of the hospital, I also value variety. I love any sport or hobby that involves physical activity, my favorites being basketball, mountain biking, snowboarding, and backpacking. I try to leave the country at least once a year, with my trusty Nikon SLR, to explore the world in Lonely Planet fashion. I have tried unsuccessfully to learn to play the guitar for the last decade, and to the chagrin of my roommate continue to deafly strum away.

For some boring facts about me, see below. For more interesting facts, stop me in the hospital and ask me. I should be able to make something up.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
