About Me

I grew up in San Francisco and went to college at the University of California, Berkeley. I then took four years off to work and travel before starting medical school. I went to New York Medical College, Valhalla, and I did my residency at Baylor college of Medicine in Houston, Texas, before returning home to practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of my family lives here and I love the area. There is no place like home.

I like being a doctor because the work is interesting and meaningful. I can really make a difference in my patient’s lives. Medicine is intellectually stimulating as there is always new information to learn. I chose internal medicine because it was the most interesting field to me. I like the variety and complexity.

My practice philosophy is to do the best job I can in taking care of my patients, and to do it in a caring and compassionate fashion. Good communication is the cornerstone of the doctor-patient relationship and I try to establish a friendly rapport with my patients. It is a much more satisfying visit for us all if I can joke and exchange stories with my patients and treat them like friends.

I chose to practice medicine at Kaiser Permanente because I wanted a practice environment that allowed me to focus on medicine without having to worry about the business side of a medical practice. I also wanted to practice in an integrated health care system - this way I always know what is happening to my patients when they are getting care from other specialists or when they are in the hospital. I wanted to be involved in a system that supported evidence-based medicine with a strong academic setting. The comprehensive care and attention to patient education and preventative health were also very appealing.

I have two very young children right now so my spare time is limited. A major undertaking is going out to dinner as a family. We generally pick somewhere that can serve in 5-10 minutes. Most outings are to parks, children's museums, etc., but it is all very fun. I like to cook, hike, backpack (it has been a long time since I did much of either of those), travel (small children are surprisingly portable), read, and go to movies. Lately it has been mostly rentals.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
