Welcome to My Home Page!
About Me
I was born and raised in the Midwest and came to live in California in the 1990’s after which I began to work for Kaiser Permanente. My medical career has been full and varied. I have worked as a general internist, a medical director of a hospice, a critical care physician and an anesthesiologist. The types of practice I have been involved with include private practice, an academic practice, and now a large HMO. I have worked in community hospitals as well as in a large inner city trauma center. My patients have varied widely in age and acuity of illness. My roles as a physician have included being a clinician, administrator, teacher and researcher.
My clinical interests have included medical education of medical and anesthesia residents, medical ethics and humanities, end of life care, recall after anesthesia for trauma, and the use of cell-saving devices in sickle-trait patients. I have had the good fortune to be on medical teams which have traveled overseas to provide medical care in third world countries.
I am a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the California Society of Anesthesiologists.
Currently, I enjoy working in the group practice with my colleagues in the Diablo Service Area where we utilize a team approach in caring for our patients.
My personal interests include counted thread work, outdoor activities and reading fiction.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
