My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an emergency medicine physician. I became interested in emergency medicine as my specialty when I was in college. I was volunteering in an emergency department and on my first day had the opportunity to observe the physician on duty perform a simple procedure that saved a young man's life. As an emergency physician, I am a "jack-of-all-trades", meaning I provide all aspects of medical care to many different patients each day from babies to adults. Emergency medicine provides me the opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives and health.

My Practice Philosophy

One of the most important parts of my practice philosophy is that of treating the whole person. To me a patient is more than just a medical complaint or diagnosis. Each patient has emotional and spiritual aspects, in addition to the physical. It's important for a physician to address each of these areas. It truly drives the manner in which I treat patients.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I've been part of Kaiser Permanente since 2008. I work shifts in Roseville and in Sacramento at Morse Avenue.

I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente because they use a modern, integrated system with patient records and their quality of care for patients is outstanding. I have access to a large number of other physicians who are tops in their field to call on for consultation. Follow-up with a patient's primary care doctor can easily be arranged. I've worked in 5 hospital systems over the years and truly believe Kaiser Permanente provides the highest quality of health care. I am proud to serve our members.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

I am interested in using new technology, such as ultrasound, in the emergency department. International medicine is another interest of mine and I have enjoyed working in clinics abroad.

  • Member, American College of Emergency Physicians.

On a Personal Note. . .

I was born in Ventura, California and have moved frequently throughout The Golden State. I went to high school here in Sacramento and attended Sierra Junior College for two years, before transferring to The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California. From there, I went to Loma Linda University School of Medicine and then did my residency at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. I knew at the end of my residency that I wanted to come back to California, but I didn't know where. I spent the next year working as a traveling physician. It was during this year that I first worked for Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento & Roseville. At the end of the year, I knew that I wanted to come back to the Sacramento area and work here permanently.

When not working, I enjoy traveling. I also enjoy cooking, reading, Bible study, and exploring beautiful Northern California.
