I am a board certified Genetic Counselor. Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, and analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also provide supportive counseling to families, serve as patient advocates and refer individuals and families to community or state support services.

My Biography

I joined the Kaiser staff in 1997 as the Genetic Counseling Supervisor. My prior work experience was within a university medical center and private practice. I enjoy being part of a medical team that provides comprehensive care under one roof!

I am often asked what a genetic counselor does. Genetic counselors work as members of a health care team, providing information and support to families. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also provide supportive counseling to families, serve as patient advocates and refer individuals and families to community or state support services.

I am active in my professional organization, National Society of Genetic Counselors, with a particular interest in professional education and workforce development. In my free time, my husband and I are adjusting to our new roles as empty nesters. We enjoy various outdoor activities, exercise, and travel.

I look forward to meeting with you and will do my best to address your questions and concerns. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
