About Me
Hi, I'm Chris. It's not that I've always wanted to become a doctor, it's more that I've been intrested in the "human condition" that kept me in school. I'm a Viet Nam veteran and when I returned from the war, college was a place for me to grow and puzzle with the big questions. Over the years, my interests in psychology have broadened and deepened, crossing over from the study of politics.
I enjoy my work and I enjoy spending time with young people. I've worked in the psychotherapeutic field for over two decades now, some of my time with older adults, some with addictions and depression but mostly with families and young people.
I strongly believe that in order to work well with a young person, I need to know the family, the parent(s), and the extended families (of youth with divorced parents) to better know and understand what's going on with my patient. Working with a child out of his or her family context yelds a poor outcome, prognosis, and/or stigmatizing the child as "the problem." I strive for changes within the family and occurring in the family environment, i.e., short term and group work.
If therapy is to be beneficial for your youth, the entire family must benefit along with your child. However, my approach calls for not only changes from your youth, but you too.
I received my Doctorate in Education, counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco in 1991. I hold a Marriage and Family Therapist's license. My wife and i worked our way through graduate school together which has given me more appreciation of her and our relationship. I tend not to give up on people, but I'm more willing to walk along with them and their families for a time in their life.
