About Me

I obtained my medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. I then completed a residency at UC Davis School of Medicine. I work at Kaiser Permanente because I agree with the Kaiser Permanente approach to medicine, which enables the physician to order the necessary tests and procedures without having to request approval from insurance companies.

I originally chose the field of medicine because I was curious about people and I was interested in contributing to their general health and wellbeing. But the more I learn about medicine, the more I realize how much an individual’s lifestyle can effect or undermine true health. The art and the potency of medicine lie in preventing disease. As a hospitalist, I try to emphasize the importance of diet and exercise. With appropriate lifestyle changes, an individual can oftentimes reduce their dependence on medications, along with all their attendant risks and adverse effects.

In alignment with my philosophies about medicine, I am fascinated by nutrition, which I’ve found to be a vastly under-appreciated field. I’ve recently discovered the joys of composting and gardening. I try to exercise 30 minutes a day, and try to maintain a balanced diet with lots of fiber and less trans and hydrogenated fats. I also enjoy writing and have attached a few of my poems.

INNOCENCE
Next to the pond a little fawn grazes
She starts at her own reflection, then gazes.
Beautiful and graceful – all the more
For never having seen a mirror before.

A SMILE
Such a small thing,
So often used for show.
But when sincere –
A glimpse into the soul.

My Philosophy of Care...

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
