About Me
I was born and raised in the Philippines. I went to medical school in the Philippines and did my internship and residency here in the United States. I practiced medicine in a rural community in California before I moved to Sacramento and joined Kaiser Permanente. My husband works at SMUD, and no, we do not get free or discounted electricity rates. We have one son who keeps me very busy during my free time. We like to travel and explore new places, but that has slowed down quite a bit since my son was born. I also like tending to my rose garden, except during winter when I have to prune 26 rose bushes by myself.

My Healthcare Practice
My specialty is internal medicine, and I work as a hospitalist. That means I only work in the hospital, admitting patients from the ER. I also do some consultations for other subspecialists in the hospital. I used to practice in a rural community in California seeing patients both in the clinic and in the hospital. When I moved to Sacramento, I decided to concentrate on the hospital part of my work because this is what I enjoyed more.
Although the work is intense, I really like being able to help the hospital patients receive the treatment they need. I try to listen to them and explain what is going on and also discuss the plan so that they will not be so scared to be in the hospital. Having had first hand experience with becoming sick enough that I had to be admitted to the hospital in 2003, I try to remember what I liked and did not like from that experience and apply it to my daily encounters with my patients. I appreciated it when my doctors and nurses listened to me and included me in the discussions regarding my health care. I also appreciated the compassion and warmth that were shown to me. I try to incorporate these when I talk to my patients, and hopefully, this will comfort them when they feel like things are out of their control.
Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente
I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente since 2001. I like the fact that I can do what needs to be done to get the patient well. I can get the tests needed without a lot of red tape. I also appreciate that most of the patients’ information is computerized. Many times, we do not already have the chart available when we admit patients from the ER, but we can look up the patient’s information on the computer. This facilitates the admission tremendously.
