Welcome to my home page. Hopefully you will learn a little about me and useful information on mental health that I have supplied in the links to the left.

I chose the field of Social Work because it has been around for a long time, is sound and reputable. The School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley, where I attended, has a very good reputation for providing classes and field placements in the variety of areas Social Workers serve and I was impressed at that time with their Clinical Curriculum for Children and Families.

My practice philosophy is a combination of different therapeutic modalities catered to the needs of my patient and his/her family. I also strive to be culturally competent and address cultural and language issues as it is pertinent to the therapy. I believe in empowering my patients and families to access the resources in the school and community yet oftentimes a certain amount of casemanagement is required for many of my clients. In both my individual and group work, I oftentimes use cognitive behavioral therapy and in working with families, I use a family systems approach to therapy. My main areas of interest are: high risk adolescents, children who have experienced loss (including divorce or separation ), eating disorders and working with children and youth whose parents are immigrants to this country (i.e. acculturation issues, etc).

I have worked with Kaiser Permanente, Department of Psychiatry for the last ten and a half years. I plan to most likely retire in this job (another fifteen or so years).

I like working for Kaiser Permanente because, I find the job exciting and challenging. I have moved into a Middle Management position as the Manager of the Intensive Outpatient Program. This keeps me motivated to do my work well. I am blessed with a wonderful, professional and competent set of Child/Adolescent Providers to work with. I also enjoy the variety of patient problems to work with and also that I can perform some Administrative functions on top of my day to day treatment of patients. I also love my work with the Latino Clinic. It is rewarding working with the patients who are part of the Latino Clinic and to work with Providers (both in Adult and Child Services), who are bilingual Spanish Speaking. The patients participate in individual, family, couples and group treatment and feel a sense of support from our coordinated efforts performed by our Spanish Speaking receptionist.

I currently am Co-chair of the Redwood City Chapter Kaiser Permanente Latino Association (KPLA) and serve on the Northern California Regional Planning Board of KPLA. I also am a member of the local chapter of the Cultural Diversity Committee for Redwood City and I am the Champion of the Psychiatry Best Practices Eating Disorders Committee.

I come from a large family and I am Mexican American in background, therefore working with families and being bilingual are natural areas of interest. I also have been into sports, physical fitness and strive to work on meditation and relaxation since I am a strong believer in mind/body connection.
