My Biography

Kaiser Permanente affords me the opportunity to develop and apply biofeedback applications for chronic pain disorders. In our Chronic Pain Management Center, patients experience a minimum of hassles due to our multidisciplinary approach to care. All of a patient’s medical information is integrated and available to all of the patient’s providers.

With Kaiser Permanente’s model, I have the freedom to make decisions about treatment without worrying about insurance matters. Since we are all specialist here, our department experiences seamless coordination with the Physical Therapy and Psychiatry departments. Patients benefit from a lack of delay in accessing individualized care. They don’t need to reach outside the system.

In addition to biofeedback, my special interest areas are hypnosis, psychosomatic disorders, anxiety disorders, and pain management. I regularly attend conferences of the Association of Applied Psychology and Biofeedback, and sit on the editorial board of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies and Biofeedback magazine.

I enjoy teaching people relaxation techniques, and I enjoy practicing in San Francisco. I lived here during the 60s and looked forward to coming back for a long time. I go hiking most weekends, and I look for opportunities to walk rather than taking elevators or buses to my destination. I have learned to use moderation in eating. I enjoy playing the piano and writing science fiction.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
