My goal is to help patients’ lead healthier lives. As a nephrologist, I am a specialist who deals with the medical complications of kidney disease. Service has been a key aspect of my upbringing. I chose medicine for this very reason. Kaiser Permanente offers excellent service to its members and through its integrative services and innovations helps members thrive.

When a person hears they have kidney disease, the perception is one of gloom and doom. There are a lot of fears and misconceptions. So my patient's medical issues are only part of my concern. I also try to ensure that they and their families have all the information they need to make the necessary changes to improve their health and social situation. The more knowledge my patient and their family are empowered with, the easier it is to manage and cope with the medical issues and achieve a better outcome.

Serving as Chief of Nephrology in the Hayward/Fremont service area gave me the opportunity to lead the department in the right direction. Teamwork, excellent quality and above all patient service and satisfaction were the theme. I was born and raised in Bangalore, India. I received my medical education at Bangalore University in 1986. My internship was done at Grant Hospital of Chicago and my residency training was completed at Kaiser in Santa Clara in 1993.

In addition to English, I speak two Indian dialects, Kannada and Telugu. I am married and have two daughters and a wonderful dog that’s like a third child. I love gardening, cooking and walking.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
