My Biography

Thank you for visiting my homepage!

I was born in Seoul, South Korea. My family moved to the US when I was 6 years old and I grew up in Southern California. I graduated Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. I earned my Medical Degree from UCLA School of Medicine in 1996 and completed a Pediatric Residency at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon in 1999. I am Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1999 and since that time have been an active member of the Department of Pediatrics. I have a special interest in the acute care setting and in the hospital-based practice of medicine. Currently, I work full time as a hospital-based pediatrician (Pediatric Hospital Based Specialists, or Pediatric HBS) caring for hospitalized pediatric patients on the pediatric ward as well as babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and healthy newborns in the Mother-Baby Unit.

My wife is a general dentist and we have two wonderful daughters and a goofy black labrador retriever named Daisy. In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I also enjoy various outdoor activities including camping, hiking, downhill skiing, mountain biking, running and fishing. My other hobbies include photography, reading, and watching movies.

I and the entire Pediatric Department want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you need to schedule or reschedule a follow-up appointment in the pediatric clinic or have any questions or concerns regarding your child's health, please call the pediatric nurse advice line.

If you or any of your family members do not have a personal care provider, please call our Personal Physician Selection Service at 510-675-BOND(2663)and a specialist can help make the best choice for you. You can also register at www.kp.org to access online health management tools for your child, including secure email messaging with your child's doctor, lab results and prescription refills.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
