WELCOME!

Thank you for visiting my home page and giving me the opportunity to tell you about myself as well as provide you with links to a variety of other medical information. I love what I do in emergency medicine, and especially love the opportunity to provide care to a wide variety of patients and for a wide range of medical conditions.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in California, and grew up mostly in the Bay Area. I went to UC Santa Barbara for undergraduate training then took time off to work on a large clinical trial at Stanford University before starting medical school. I attended Stanford University for medical school, and completed my residency training in Emergency Medicine at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. I have been with Kaiser since 2001 and feel I am able to provide the highest quality of medical care in Emergency Medicine as well as beyond the Emergency Department. Our physicians in all departments work closely together to be sure you and your family receive the best possible care.

When not working shifts, I enjoy being outdoors and competing in various sports. Throughout my life I’ve been involved on a competitive basis with track and field (doing the heptathlon), cross country running, road cycling and triathlons (including an ironman distance!). I am currently working on the next adventure in my life of having children and raising a family (…well, and still trying to continue swimming, riding, running, skiing, backpacking and traveling!)

CHECK OUT THESE LINKS

I would also like to use this opportunity to refer you to a few Internet links to provide you with excellent medical information. First, are the Kaiser links that are listed to the left under “My Home Page” and “Related Health Links”. These links have a lot of useful information for common questions that arise about certain health topics as well as information on specific care after visiting the emergency department.

Other internet sites I recommend are:

Certified Farmer’s Markets of Sacramento This lists all the farmer’s market dates and locations in the Sacramento area to get your weekly fresh fruits and support the local farmers.

The Schedule This lists by type of event all athletic events anywhere in the world. Use it to target your next athletic goal.

Centers for Disease Control This is a GREAT resource for information on everything from current health topics such as West Nile Virus, Avian flu, etc, to travel health information and immunizations, injury prevention tips, and lots more.

Medic Alert Foundation Working in the ED we see the importance of medical alert tags to provide proper care for you. Order your medic alert bracelet or pendant online. Wearing the bracelet or pendant connects emergency medical personnel with your medical alert information, 24 hours a day.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU

I know visiting the Emergency Department can be an uncomfortable experience and you may have unanswered questions. You can leave a non-urgent message on my voicemail listed above or try Kaiser’s new secure-messaging system where you can e-mail your doctor or myself directly. (Given our irregular schedules in the ER, don’t forget it may take up to a week for me to answer your messages).

Thank you!

Cathy Norbutas, M.D.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
