Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, and analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also serve as patient advocates and refer individuals to community or state support services.

I was born and raised in Texas and moved to California to attend Stanford University. After graduating in 2002 with a degree in human biology, I became a junior high and high school mathematics teacher. Drawn to the counseling aspects of teaching and pulled back to my interests in biology, I decided to return to school after a few years in order to pursue a MS degree in genetic counseling. I then returned to Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Houston in 2007. Following graduate school, I found my way back to California and joined the genetics team at Kaiser San Jose.

As a genetic counselor, my goal is to provide my patients with a clear understanding of complex genetic and medical information and guide them in their decision-making processes. I strive to create a comfortable and open environment in which my patients feel free to ask difficult questions and take control of their personal health care. Please feel free to contact me at (408)972-3336

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
