My Specialty and Why I Chose It

As a clinical audiologist, I work with the hearing impaired. Communication problems and hearing difficulties have always been of great interest to me having grown up with an older brother - "best friend"- who was born with a hearing impairment.

My Practice Philosophy

I really enjoy working with hearing aids and that is why I chose to dispense hearing aids at the Hearing Center. There is a great deal of reward that comes from helping someone select, fit and find help from the assistance of a hearing aid. When working with my patients, I try first to simply be a good listener. I really need to understand what my patients perceive as their primary communication problem. From there, we can work together to try and correct their difficulties.

Education

Bachelor of Arts Speech Pathology & Audiology
Master of Arts Audiology

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I began working as an audiologist in 1976 and began as a dispensing audiologist in 1977 where I supervised in a large Ear, Nose & Throat clinic in Palm Springs, California. In 1991, my husband and I returned to Sacramento and I began working with Kaiser Permanente.

It has been an exciting and rewarding time here at Kaiser Permanente. Hearing aid technology has advanced to a truly high level of sophistication. Here at the Hearing Center in Sacramento, we have access to the most current hearing instruments and equipment available. Those who suffer from hearing impairment can find themselves in a type of isolation and exclusion that is difficult for some of us to comprehend. Hearing loss can separate us from our friends and our loved ones. Hearing instruments can help reconnect us to the world which we belong. There have been such tremendous improvements in amplification that my job is actually easier and more rewarding than ever. The hearing aid of today is NOT your grandparents’, or parents’ hearing aid.

On a Personal Note

When not working, I can usually be found puttering in my garden or kayaking with friends and family on the beautiful waters of Lake Tahoe. Of course there is always the menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, turtles, tortoises and fish to tend.
