My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a physical therapist specializing in women's health. This means that I provide physical therapy treatment to women with women's health disorders including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain as well as pre and postnatal musculoskeletal disorders. Manual therapy procedures including myofascial release and trigger point massage are used to identify and release fascial restrictions which may be referring pain and inhibiting function.

Therapeutic exercise and functional activity retraining is emphasized. I decided to do this type of work because I receive great satisfaction working with this specialized patient population by providing a highly effective conservative management option for those who suffer from pain, elimination disorders and incontinence.

Education

B.S. Physiology University of California, Davis
M.S. Physical Therapy Columbia University

My Practice Philosophy

I value treating the whole patient. I emphasize patient education, self-management strategies and relaxation training for chronic pain conditions and pelvic floor dysfunction. I believe in strong communication with my patients so that they can learn how to help themselves. I deliver care with compassion and am dedicated to each patient in helping them achieve enhanced physical health and quality of life.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a part of the Kaiser Permanente team since 1991, beginning my tenure as both an outpatient and inpatient staff physical therapist. I began working in the women's health specialty in 2002 and have come to appreciate the importance of offering conservative management options to those patients suffering from women's health disorders.

I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Kaiser Permanente healthcare team because I have the autonomy and freedom to individualize treatments for my patients as well as work in a collaborative fashion with the referring providers to provide the highest quality medical care in the healthcare industry.

On a Personal Note

I grew up in northern California. I love the outdoors and all it offers. I also enjoy the arts including theater, music and designing creative crafts. But, above all, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
