Welcome to My Home Page!
I began practice as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 1987. Upon licensure as a psychologist in 1998 I broadened my clinical practice to include psychological assessment and chemical dependency services. My career choice is based on my growing up with a family member with mental illness and later influence and encouragement by mentors in the helping professions. What I like most about my work is the daily opportunity to assist people in making important changes in their lives.
Kaiser Permanente provides a stimulating multidisciplinary environment that challenges my thinking about addictions and mental illness, and offers a number of resources for personal and professional development. My theoretical orientation combines family systems theory with cognitive behavioral therapy and existential/humanistic psychology. Patients can expect a practical problem solving approach with emphasis on communication skills, relationship building and interpersonal understanding.
My clinical interests include adolescent psychology, group psychotherapy, addiction studies and self healing through exercise, nutrition and mindfulness relaxation methods. I have specialized training in structural and strategic family therapy, gestalt therapy, adolescent psychological assessment, and treatment of chemical additions. I am a past affiliate of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Society for Personality Assessment. I am a current member of Employee Assistance Professionals, Inc. and the California Psychological Association.
On a personal note I enjoy swimming, surfing, practicing yoga, playing music, and cooking healthful meals with my family whenever we find the time.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
