About Me
I have always been interested in the medical field, but became intrigued with the field of physical therapy after a close friend developed a spinal cord injury in college. I spent several hours with him as he went through his physical therapy sessions, and was very impressed with how the therapists taught him to become mobile again using the strengths he had.
In following that good example, when developing treatment plans for each patient I look at the whole person and what abilities they have. I have found that staying positive and utilizing a person’s strengths produces a better outcome than only addressing where a person is weak.
I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. My clinical interest and a majority of my post-graduate training has been focused on neurological rehabilitation. As a physical therapist focusing on neurological rehabilitation, I really enjoy the close interaction I have with the patients and with their families. I have the opportunity to treat the whole person in working towards a functional goal. Every person is different so I am challenged from patient to patient in helping them to become more independent. In particular, I am interested in helping people with disabilities (i.e. spinal cord injury, amputation, head injury) become involved in physical activities that they may or may not have been interested in prior to their injury.
I like working for Kaiser Permanente because this organization supports me in treating patients to the best of my ability. Kaiser Permanente emphasizes preventive medicine, which physical therapy can play a large role in.
I cherish my time with my family and friends, including my two dogs. I love to be outdoors, whether it is biking, hiking, skiing, or just spending time at the park with my son. I also enjoy competing in triathlons.
