My Biography
I grew up in Berkeley, and received my BS in Physiology at CSU Long Beach. I went to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. I've been at Kaiser Permanente since 1993, allowing me to practice Orthopaedic Surgery in an environment that regards quality over cost containment and health over marketing strategy. I am board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
In addition to caring for patients for the Department of Orthopedics, I occasionally go overseas to teach Orthopaedic Surgery. My most recent trip was to China, where I spent three weeks giving lectures and surgical demonstrations on joint replacement, arthroscopy, and hand surgery. I have done similar work in El Salvador and Viet Nam.
I have a very active practice in a broad range of Orthopaedic Surgical Specialties. I make efforts to stay abreast of the very latest and most effective surgical treatments for musculoskeletal disorders. I have special training in the fields of Sports Medicine, Joint Reconstruction, Trauma, and Hand Surgery. In 2007, I took a year away from my practice do a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. In 2008, I returned to the Oakland Campus to participate in an Orthopaedic Trauma Specialty Service.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
