Hi, I'm Dr. Brian Jan, one of the staff emergency physicians here at Kaiser Permanente, South Sacramento. I was born and raised in Sacramento and jumped at the opportunity to join the staff here so I could be close to my family and afford a house (this was several years ago). I graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelors in genetics, then went on to get my medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. At that point I thought I wanted to be an ophthalmogist and started a residency at the University of Pittsburgh, but later changed specialities to emergency medicine, which suited me more. I love the challenges and excitement of the specialty, with the opportunity to help people in acute need. I did my residency training at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, which was about as busy and crazy as you would think.

One of the positives about emergency medicine is the fact that I don't know what's coming in next. One of the negatives about emergency medicine is the fact that I don't know what's coming in next. To help relieve some of the work-related stress which is a nature of the beast, I like to spend time with my family, snowboard, play basketball and golf, and take on some co-workers in an occasional video game of Halo. OK, frequent games of Halo. Typical ER doc.

If I treated you in our ED, hope you feel better soon. Don't take this personally, but I hope I don't have to see you again unless it's on the golf course or on the slopes...

Sincerely, Brian Jan, M.D.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
