Thanks for checking out my home page!
Just in case you have already seen me in the emergency room, or if you are just browsing to see who are the staff members of your neighborhood ER, I will use this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to San Francisco when I was only 7 years old. I grew up pretty much in the San Francisco Bay Area for my childhood and teenage years.
As you can already see from my credentials, after going to UC Berkeley for college, I left for Missouri to study medicine, but I sure missed California during the four years there! When it was time for residency to begin, I chose the Sacramento area because the UC Davis-Sutter Program was everything I wanted. After spending more than 10 years in the Central Valley, I moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to my parents and younger brothers.
My wife Akiko and I have two wonderful daughters and a son who is always curious. Outside of my home life and my profession in the San Jose ER, I have a specific interest in alternative medicine and complementary therapies. My father is an experienced acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist in the Bay Area. I have grown up not needing to rely on "pills" for many ailments. Instead, my parents and brothers have all been using herbs and acupuncture to treat many common illnesses. From my exposure, I believe very much in alternative medicine and that healthy living begins with a stable lifestyle, a nutritious diet, and above all, finding happiness and participating actively in life to stay happy.
My father's work inspired me to study Western allopathic medicine, and to expand my horizons by also learning acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine so that I can offer these options to my patients when the opportunity is fit. Unlike the other doctors in our San Jose ER, I am family practice trained. I see this difference as a channel that allows for variety and fresh ideas. My training also allows me to focus more on the urgent care needs in the ER environment. I am excited to be here at Kaiser Permanente and I hope that my experience will provide you with satisfaction when you visit our ER!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
