About Me

After growing up in Saratoga and attending the University of California, Berkeley, as an undergraduate, I spent the next nine years of medical training in Southern California. While there, I attended the University of California, San Diego, for medical school and Harbor-University of California, Los Angeles, for orthopedic surgery residency training. I completed my residency in June of 2003 and have been with Kaiser Permanente ever since.

Although the journey to become a physician and a surgeon is a long one, I have never regretted my decision and have truly enjoyed the privilege to be involved with this profession and to serve my patients. Ever since I was a little boy, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. I found that my favorite class in school was animal dissection. I find medicine, and especially surgery, interesting, since it allows one to maximally utilize their mind and their hands for the benefit of others.

I have found that this practice environment allows me to practice medicine the way I feel it should be practiced. I believe that a physician and the patient are a team and should approach medical decisions together. The best decisions for treatment stem from this team approach, and Kaiser Permanente provides the perfect background for this approach to flourish. There is never a third party overseeing the decisions that our team makes, simply a commitment to practice good, evidence-based medicine.

As I am a general orthopedist, my practice scope is fairly broad. I perform hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, as well as surgeries for sports injuries such as ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, and surgery for shoulder instability. I perform numerous knee arthroscopies for any number of reasons, as well as surgeries for other common ailments such as carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder impingement, etc. I trained at a county trauma center and am well versed in the treatment and surgery of traumatic injuries and fractures. I am a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful woman, we met while I was a medical student in San Diego) who works part-time as a pediatric dentist. We have one daughter, who was born in June of 2004. We both enjoy various recreational activities such as hiking, skiing, bicycling and scuba diving. We especially enjoy traveling and have traveled extensively to countries such as Russia, France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Malaysia, Singapore, and many Caribbean islands. I am of Russian descent and am fairly fluent in the Russian language.

I hope you have enjoyed my brief introduction, and I look forward to meeting you and developing a team approach to address your orthopedic problem.
