Language and communication are integral parts of what makes us human. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I feel I have a special role in helping patients to develop or relearn communication skills. I am fortunate to see a wide variety of patients, young and old, who have difficulty with producing speech sounds, expressing ideas, understanding spoken or written language, voice, memory, problem solving, and swallowing. My passion is educating Kaiser Permanente members and their family about these areas that so many of us take for granted.

I joined Kaiser Permanente Redwood City as a Speech-Language Pathologist for the Outpatient clinic in August 2008. I also am a Clinical Instructor at San Francisco State University where I fulfill my other passion of training the next generation of Speech-Language Pathologists. I have worked in hospitals, skilled nursing and rehab facilities, home health, and public elementary schools. All these experiences have helped to me to gain a valuable perspective on the importance of my career across health and educational settings.

I grew up in Texas and made my way to California via Washington D.C. and Chicago. Now that I am here, I try to take advantage of what makes the Bay Area so unique. I love farmer’s markets, hiking, cycling, and experiencing new cultures. I also speak Spanish and Portugese.

Working at Kaiser Permanente has given me a unique opportunity to be able to collaborate with a wide range of professionals and specialists. I am able to deepen my knowledge and pass that along to my patients. On my web page, you will find links to resources for more information about what speech-language pathologists do and the populations that we treat. Hopefully, you will learn something new.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
