About Me
I grew up in Pacheco, California and have been practicing at Kaiser Permanente since 2001. It's a great privilege to be practicing emergency medicine in the community where I grew up. At the Walnut Creek Emergency Department, I have treated patients I have known since kindergarten. That is really satisfying! It gives me a sense of being part of the community and of having a history and a connection here in the East Bay.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. After graduation, I did neurotoxicology research at the University of California, San Francisco before attending medical school at the University of California, San Francisco.
After medical school, I did a 4-year residency in emergency medicine at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center in New York City. This very intense training in emergency medicine prepared me well to deal with the entire spectrum of emergency medical problems. That includes cardiovascular problems, respiratory emergencies, trauma, toxicology, and infectious disease.
My other research and clinical interests include medical informatics and psychiatry. My personal interests include triathlon, percussion, jazz, and Latin and Brazilian music.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
