My Profession

I am a surgical pathologist. I review tissue removed during surgery and read PAP smears and other cytologic examinations. I am also chairman of the Pathology Quality Assurance Committee.

My Credentials

Medical school Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC
Internship Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC
Residency Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC
Fellowship University of Texas Health Science Center At San Antonio, School of Medicine, San Antonio, TX
Board certification Pathology - Anatomic and Clinical, American Board of Pathology

Additional Training

I received my J.D. from McGeorge School of Law in 1989 and passed the California bar exam on my first try in 1989. I am a member of The Order of the Coif, which is a national honor society for law school graduates who attended member schools.

On a Personal Note…

I enjoy reading (British mysteries are one of my favorites), traveling (especially to London to enjoy the plays, concerts, and operas), needlepoint (primarily Asian-themed canvases), knitting (I am addicted to sweaters), baking (frustrated baking chef, the folks in the laboratory are always very helpful when I want to try out a new dessert recipe!), and volunteer work in the book barn at the Sacramento SPCA to prepare for the annual book sales.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
