My Biography

Welcome to my home page!

Education:

B.A. in Psychology, Millersville University; Millersville, PA
M.A. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, California School of Professional Psychology; San Francisco Bay Area
Pre-doctoral Internship: Dutchess County Dept. of MH; Poughkeepsie, NY
Post-doctoral Residency: Dept. of Chemical Dependency; Kaiser San Rafael

After completing my undergraduate training in psychology in Pennsylvania, I relocated to the Bay Area to do my graduate training. I have worked in community mental health clinics in the city of San Francisco (New Leaf) and the East Bay (Community Counseling and Education Center) working with both adults and children. I completed my pre-doctoral training in New York at the Dutchess County Dept. of MH, with training/rotations in Dialectical Behavior Therapy as well as Psychological Testing and Neuropsychological Assessment with adults and children in inpatient, outpatient and forensic settings. I finished my training with a post-doctoral residency at Kaiser San Rafael in the Dept of Chemical Dependency. I have been working at Kaiser since 2003.

I am currently working as a clinical psychologist at the Kaiser SSF Dept of Psychiatry. I lead the Dialectical Behavior Therapy groups and am on the Intensive Outpatient Program team. I often use Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques and approaches when working with people who are seeking help here. This type of therapy emphasizes mindfulness and acceptance in addition to using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, such as examining distortions in the ways in which we think about ourselves, our relationships and our circumstances. This type of therapy often requires much effort and work, but is also seen as a very effective way of making change. The following is a link is a site that helps to explain these DBT Skills in a user-friendly way. Dialectal Behavior Therapy

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
