About Me

I grew up on Kharkov, Ukraine and I knew that I wanted to be a physician since I was four. I graduated from medical school in Kharkov and was involved in the treatment of survivors of the Chernobyl nuclear power disaster. One of my research projects was investigating the short and long-term effects of radiation on the endocrine system in general and thyroid gland specifically. That was how I became interested in endocrinology and metabolism.

I immigrated to the United States with my family in 1993 and initially worked in the cholesterol clinic at the University of California, San Francisco. The privilege of observing world-class experts in endocrinology increased my understanding of metabolic processes in the human body and solidified my desire to practice medicine in the United States.

After my residency in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, I decided to join the hospital medicine team. I enjoy the challenges of inpatient medicine, the diagnosing of complex medical conditions, the management of acutely ill patients, and close interaction with my patients, their families, and my colleagues.

I feel fortunate to work in Hospital Medicine Department in Walnut Creek since 1999. My decision to stay with Kaiser Permanente after residency was obvious for me. Kaiser Permanente provides collaborative care with full support from different departments and delivers high quality medical care utilizing the latest medical advances.

My previous experience in treating patients with endocrine and metabolic abnormalities has led to my present involvement in inpatient management of adults with anorexia nervosa.

I am married and have a son. I enjoy reading, cooking, and outdoor activities with my family. I am a member of the American College of Physicians, National Association of Inpatient Physicians, and the California Medical Association.
