About my practice

Communication skills are so important in every aspect of our lives. We develop and maintain interpersonal relationships and job skills, express our thoughts and feelings and convey new ideas with successful communication. I like knowing that I can enhance an individual’s quality of life by improving communication skills.

I like the problem solving aspect of speech pathology. Each individual requires a careful diagnosis and treatment plan specific to their personality, living or working situation and unique communication needs. The involvement of family members, caregivers, and friends in the rehabilitation process is also interesting and challenging. Speech pathology in the medical setting encompasses a great variety of problems which are challenging and stimulating. It is never boring. I also like working independently with a flexible schedule that can fit the patients’ needs.

I believe the patient should set his or her own personal goals and take a large piece of responsibility for progress. This usually means participating actively in a home program, often with the help of family and other support systems. My specialties are adult communication and swallowing disorders. I also work with younger patients who have medically related communication problems.

I am a member of the California Speech and Hearing Association and the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. I am on the board of directors of the Stroke Support Group of Contra Costa County. I maintain a website for improving communication and memory, memorytalk.com
