My Biography

I am a graduate of Smith College. I received my medical degree in 1978 from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. I completed an internship in internal medicine at Tufts University New England Medical Center in 1979 and a residency in radiology at The New York Hospital Cornell University Medical Center in 1983. I was a fellow in abdominal imaging and magnetic resonance imaging at the University of California San Francisco from 1983 to 1985. I was a faculty member at the Cornell University Medical College and an attending radiologist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 1985 to 1987. I was a faculty member at the University of California San Francisco and an attending radiologist at Moffit-Long and San Francisco General Hospitals from 1987 to 1992. I joined the radiology department at Kaiser Redwood City in 1992. I received board certification in diagnostic radiology in 1983 and earned the certificate of added qualifications in neuroradiology from the American Board of Radiology in 1997.

I chose my specialty at a time when new imaging technologies, particularly CT and MRI, had just begun to expand the role of the radiologist in diagnostic and interventional practice. It was a good decision; the constant pace of innovation in development of imaging equipment, technique, and clinical application has made radiology a challenging and satisfying specialty.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group because I believe that the multispecialty group practice model facilitates cooperation and communication between physicians and surgeons and allows us to concentrate on the clinical needs of our patients. As a radiologist I work as a consultant to physicians who provide direct clinical care. My job is to correlate anatomic data revealed in imaging studies with clinical data provided by those physicians.

I am a member of the Radiologic Society of North America and the American Society of Neuroradiology.

I feel fortunate to live in the San Francisco Bay area with my family, pets, and friends. In my free time I enjoy sports, both as a participant and a spectator, and travel.

Although most patients will pass through the radiology department at some point when seeking diagnosis or treatment, they may not know which of several examination types is most likely to yield the information they need. If you would like to read more about specific examinations please go to the links entitled "Learn More About Radiology" and "Learn More About Interventional Radiology" in the side bar to the left of this text.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
