To My Patients:
Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Barbara YostKnox. I am one of three pathologists working at the Kaiser Permanente Stockton Medical Offices. Pathology is a special field in which a medical doctor studies tissues taken from a patient. This may include a biopsy of skin such as a mole or nevus or something bigger like a gallbladder. Pathologists may also perform autopsies. We are also responsible for overseeing the laboratory in which analysis on blood, urine, and cultures take place. I consider pathologists a Doctor's doctor. The results that we obtain go directly to your provider where they can discuss the results and any required follow-up with you.
About Me
I first became interested in pathology during my second year of medical school. Pathology was such an exciting class. It was and still is an important part of my life. Surprisingly, I enjoy coming to work each day and solving the "mysteries" that come from each specimen. My undergraduate work was done at the University of California, Davis. I then went to medical school in the Dominican Republic. I completed my residency at the University of Maryland where I met my husband. We got married and I finished my residency at Rhode Island Hospital while my husband finished his neurology residency at Boston City Hospital. We moved to California in l991. My husband, Stephen, went into private practice and I practiced pathology at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. In late 1998, I joined the "Kaiser Team" in Stockton. Although I live in Rancho Cordova and commute every day, I find the drive very pleasant and relaxing traversing the country roads before hitting the freeway.
My husband and I have two boys, Ian and Kelby. Stephen is active in boy scouts and all three enjoy the activities associated with scouting. Ian also is an accomplished flute player and is involved with his high school band. Kelby is on the local swim team. Both boys ski/snowboard, a sport I was involved with when I was also their age. Every year, we go for several days to keep up our skills. Stephen is an avid scuba diver. I got certified last year and this year we hope to get the boys certified. Besides the family sports, I also ride hunt seat and jump (over small jumps) with my little horse, Smudge.
My Philosophy of Care
The department's mission as well as my own is to accomplish through and accurate examination of tissues and body fluids to aid the physician in the diagnosis of disease and the monitoring of treatment.
